Landsborough’s town centre is now home to a beautifully designed and handcrafted seating area. More than 22 rustic oversized hardwood timber benches and seats were recently installed and are inspired by the area’s rich history.
“The designs emerged from a process of community consultation,” says POMO Design Director, Stephen Burton. “By listening to the locals, our team of urban planners and designers created from a considered and connected place.”
Once home to the Sunshine Coast’s logging industry, residents were keen to share the history of the region.
“The historical character of the town inspired our designs to create a public space that seamlessly blends into its surroundings,” says Stephen. “That’s why we selected natural materials like Australian ironbark timber.”
POMO collaborated with Sensus Building Group to bring their plans to life. The team at Sensus transformed more than 48 pieces of ironbark timber into this stand out custom seating area.
“Our Sunshine Coast based team of in-house expert craftsman approached each section of timber as a work of art,” says Sensus CEO, Sean Kenny. “Using their extensive woodworking experience they took great pride in creating these unique pieces for the community.”
The result is a beautifully fashioned public space that works impeccably with the historical and architectural features of the town.
By creating with the community in mind locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy this custom seating area for decades to come.
